The Inventory You Cannot See
Why rare parts get ordered late or twice, and what happens when stock finally becomes visible.

The expensive inventory is the part nobody can find, factor, or order in time. It lives in a spreadsheet, a co-supplier's inbox, and someone's head.
This is the invisible-inventory problem.
Why it happens
Midmarket plants often have no real inventory system. Counts are tribal. Rare and long-lead parts get bought twice, or not at all. The people who know what to order are stuck reconciling instead of deciding.
What changes when stock is visible
When inventory is live (not last week's sheet), three things happen:
- You stop double-buying parts already allocated to another job
- Rare and hard-to-get items get ordered while there is still time
- Cash sitting in the wrong stock becomes a decision, not a surprise
The companies that build this layer first will have a durable operational advantage. The inventory layer is the moat, not the models.
